I don't understand all the excitement over Barrage. An ele easily out-damages a Barrage ranger. The only thing a Barrage ranger can do that an ele can't is spam interrupts, but if there's nothing important that needs interrupting, it would help the party alot if the Barrager was just replaced by a fire ele.

Besides being out-damaged by an ele, a Barrage ranger has the most braindead, laziest, and easiest role in a typical pve group - spam your elite till your finger starts bleeding. I hate playing a Barrager cause of how boring it is. I've also already said this a few times - people will usually always overexaggerate all the bunching-up that enemies do in pve. It's very common for casters in pve to be spread out far from eachother, making aoe useless. Besides that, melee enemies tend to run wildly into your backline to harass your casters....they arn't always adjacent to eachother.

I haven't used Barrage in months. I think Burning Arrow is the best elite given to rangers....just my opinion. It's the only true damage elite for bows. I stick with single-target damage which isn't bad at all, especially when you can kill specific threats faster (such as enemy monks, nukers, or melee foes attacking your casters).

I hate to say it, but much of this is the typical barrage whine that takes the aknowledgement that Barrage is often overused and used in the wrong situations to try and dismiss the skill altogether.

Whether you like it or not, there are definate advantages to barrage when used correctly. For one, a barrage ranger is a lot more reliable than an ele in a lot of PvE type areas when the comparison is in terms of AoE damage dealers. For one, a ranger can pack all his damage into one skill and allow the rest of his skill bar to be used for utility and/or defense. Also a barrage ranger is in general a very energy efficient player. The increased armor for rangers again makes a ranger more reliable. The dps of an ele vs a barrage ranger is arguable and fluctuates from situation to situation, but Barrage definately deals enough damage to pull it's weight. There are reasons why Barrage/Pet farming works so well in so many situations.

This being said, there are a lot of people who do admittedly fall back on this skill ignorantly. This is unfortunate on two fronts. One is that the player who does so not only falls short of their potential, but fails to learn adaptability, which is by far one of the greatest strengths to have in this game. Also, there is an increasing number of 'Barrage haters' who tend to talk down on any barrage build simply because they are sick of seeing it.

The reality of the situation is that there are places where Barrage works better than most builds and places that it doesn't. The skill isn't bad just because bad players use it.
